そういった意味で本書は、行動を呼びかける本でもある。
これまで独身者を不利な状況に置かれているマイノリティーととらえてこなかった研究者たち、政策立案者たちには、彼らの人数が増えていること、彼らが数多くの偏見や差別と闘っていることをよく考えてほしい（※14）。
ずっと無視されてきたシングルたちよ、今こそ立ち上がるときだ。
シングルの人たちに特有のニーズ、ライフスタイル、住環境に社会がもっと配慮を向けるのは当然のことなのだ（このことについては、本書で詳しく述べている）。
私が望むのは、本書がシングルの人たちへのささやかな貢献になることだ。彼らはまさに目覚めたばかりの巨人なのだ。
